There’s only one place in the world, where Lockie could be.
This sculpture (by Charles Smith and Joan Walsh-Smith) of street artist, Percy Button, has been in the Hay Street Mall since 2006, but it feels like it’s been there forever. It may be because Percy was such a big part of the city landscape for much of his life.
He busked on Perth streets from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. When you see this statue, you can’t help but smile. (My grandchildren may have even emulated his move!) By all accounts, Percy brightened the days of the people who saw his performances, back in the day.
It’s only fitting that his sculpture is still bringing joy to the people of Perth.
