Here’s Lockie with the new statue of Edith Cowan. What a woman! She was the first woman parliamentarian in Australia and before that she fought for women to have the right to vote. She was an advocate for public education and lobbied for the protection of children. Born near Geraldton in 1861 she died aged 70 years. What a remarkable West Australian.
The statue was created by Joan Walsh-Smith and Charles Smith and was commissioned by Sandy and Michael Anghie.
Thanks Scott Simpson for this great photo.
