A Closer Look at Barrack Street Bridge
20 June 2025

It took two visits to Barrack Street Bridge to get the photos for today’s post. Lockie was having a rest under the historical lamp pillars yesterday and I took her photo hoping to capture the grandeur of the structures. (In reality I needed to be in the middle of Wellington Street for the best angle. Just a bit too risky for both of us!)
Today’s photos show the ornate detail on the pillars. I had noticed the Black Swans (our state symbol) previously but hadn’t paid any attention to the scrolls on the sides of the pillars, or the intricate carving under the platform holding the lamps. Take a closer look next time you’re crossing the road at Wellington and Barrack Streets and marvel at the workmanship of craftsmen many years ago.
