On this International Guide Dog Day, Lockie and I are remembering our good friend, Bundy.
Bundy was bred to be a Guide Dog, but she was destined for other things. I met her when she was 2 years old. There was a notice on our local IGA community board about a dog who needed a home, and as luck would have it, she came to live with my son and his partner.
Not all the puppies being trained to become Guide Dogs, make the cut, and for reasons unknown to us, Bundy didn’t have the required skills. She was the most gentle, caring soul and she had the patience of a saint. Even when a small annoying puppy came on the scene, she tolerated her with grace. Yes, I am talking about you, Lockie!
Bundy was very special, and although she passed away a few years ago now, our family still miss her. So today we’re not only paying tribute to all the wonderful Guide Dogs, and the incredible work they do, we’re also honouring all the amazing dogs that didn’t make the cut.
They became the best ever pets for some very lucky families.
