Lockie at Gledden Arcade’s Art Deco mosaic

We walked to Gledden Arcade this morning. The Gledden Building opened in 1937 and is situated on the corner of Hay and William Streets. Built in the Art Deco style, it is heritage listed. Lockie took a liking to the compass style mosaic artwork on the floor in front of the elevators and refused to move! The arcade has kept its charm and it’s worth taking a look for yourself.

I’m a little disappointed that the basement restaurant that was operating until at least the late 1970’s is no longer there. The rectangular shaped mosaic tiled floor was once a staircase to the restaurant. I’d love to see that again!
